A period property requires a sympathetic design
Our clients live in a former lodge of a stately home in the North Hampshire countryside. When it came to upgrading their kitchen, they had a clear objective to get the most out of the space, with a central island and a larder both top on their wish list.
We needed to design a kitchen that was sympathetic to the features of this rustic property, whilst offering them all the conveniences of 21st century living, including some ultra-modern appliances to help their kitchen operate on both an aesthetic and practical level.
Dowers created the kitchen of our dreams. Guy was immensely flexible in meticulously planning and crafting with us exactly what we needed, bespoke elements, just the right appliances, materials, colours, features, and all the while very conscious of the elements we wanted to preserve and highlight.
About the project
Island living
This sleek kitchen features pale Shaker style units along with dark textured Quartz worktops. A feature point in the kitchen is the long narrow island with seating on one side and a prep area on the other with access to storage, bins, spice racks and powerpoints.
Bespoke storage solution
This a great example of our bespoke kitchen design service. Our client wanted something to hold spices, bread boards, foil and loads other essential kitchen items, all of which had to be easily accessible. Each unit pulls out with an easy access finger hole to help you – its all about the fine details!

Cutlery drawer
Another example of our bespoke design. This cutlery tray was made to our client’s specific requirements to accommodate the utensils he had.
Framing the window
This sink area has been created with ample workspace. This was achieved by installing an undermounted sink and designing the worktop to extend into the window reveal.
Two drawer dishwasher
Rather than opting for an integrated dishwasher our clients chose a Fisher & Paykel two drawer dishwasher. This innovative dishwasher runs as two separate units, each washing at ultrahigh speed. It looks and works beautifully in this kitchen.
Old meets new
This view shows how a beautiful contemporary style kitchen, crafted using traditional methods, can be made to fit as if it belongs to an older property. The smooth modern lines contrast perfectly with the beams and rustic brick wall behind the cooker.
Walk-in larder
The hidden gem of the kitchen. A walk-in larder gives plenty of storage with easy access. To help organise it effectively, we created three internal drawers and ample shelving.
Larder secrets revealed
There is even room for the microwave inside the walk-in larder.
Feature wall
The minimalist design created plenty of space around the cooker for the workspace, drawers, and a discrete extractor that was built into the ceiling space, whilst letting the traditional brick wall stand out as a feature of the kitchen.
