Recreating and improving a previously loved cooking space

This client wanted to recreate her “old" cooking space with something that was simple and comfortable yet gave her all the space she wanted to conjure up delicious meals.

Our "Pudge" door style gave the kitchen the simple finish she was looking for. The requirement for as much storage as possible with good access was very important. So, the base units near the door were designed to exactly the right depth to allow for the doorway and this meant that we could also put wall units above them. To make sure there were no sharp corners we then angled the unit to bring the base units out to the full depth.

To give easy access in the base units we used "magic corners" on the two corners and everywhere else we used a mixture of pan drawers and pan trays. The addition of the larder with its fantastic flexibility also added heaps of extra storage space. We're very pleased with the outcome and we have gained one more very happy client.

Downsizing is so hard. Guy and his team at Dowers took on board all my requests for an "old" new kitchen. The result is the heart of my home. Three years down the line they were kind enough to make some changes without charge. Cheerful, kind and professional, it has been a joy to be their customer.

About the project

An ideal living space

The peninsular is ideal for this room layout as it gives a place to relax or eat whilst keeping out of the working area of the kitchen. We made use of the space underneath by building a bookcase, wine rack, and on the back a tray space and a stack of four drawers. It's finished with a thick wooden top to really make a statement.

Delivering on the client's wish list

In the base units, we have made two stacks of three drawers. Normally these would be a shallow top drawer and two deep pan drawers, but to give the client exactly what she wanted we made two top drawers that were deeper and equal, with one pan drawer below.

A welcoming and functional utility room

In the utility room, our client wanted something that was functional but also pleasant, giving a wonderful first impression as this is a main access door to the home.

A new kitchen for a converted barn

West Meon, Hampshire

“Guy Cheeseman and his team at Dowers made a superb job of our farmhouse style kitchen, which we have been extremely pleased with.
From planning, which Guy was mainly responsible for, through to completion was very straightforward and, despite working in a converted barn where there are no such things as exact right angles etc. those obstacles were overcome with the minimum of fuss.”
