Thinking about creating a bespoke kitchen this year?
Trends change, but some ideas always feel right. And over the years, we’ve seen a huge range of kitchen designs being brought to life in our workshop. It only feels right to share some of the best with you!
These timeless kitchen design trends work beautifully in bespoke, handmade kitchens.
They cover everything from limed oak kitchen units to smart storage, colour and luxury finishes.
Natural timber and limed oak kitchens
Natural materials never really go out of style. They add warmth, texture and a calm, grounded feel.
We’re seeing continued love for oak kitchen design, especially limed oak kitchen cabinets. The limed finish softens the colour and highlights the grain, creating a lighter, relaxed look.
Traditionally, liming used a lime wash to protect and lighten the wood. Today, it’s all about the decorative effect.
At Dowers, we use a bespoke liming process on bare oak. We can enhance the grain, add subtle shading, or introduce darker edging for depth.
For one client, we created six different limed oak samples. She could compare them in her own kitchen, in different lights, before choosing her favourite.
Limed oak works beautifully with marble or marble-effect quartz worktops. You get the soft warmth of timber with the crisp luxury of stone.
Whether you prefer pale, coastal tones or richer timber shades, a carefully designed limed oak kitchen will always feel inviting and individual.

Pet-friendly family kitchens
For many of us, pets are part of the family.
The kitchen is where everyone ends up, four legged family members included.
A bespoke design lets you build in pet-friendly features. Think neat bed spaces under worktops or in island ends. Think hidden food storage and pull-out bins.
We often use otherwise wasted toe-kick space for pet beds or bowls. It keeps walkways clear and helps your kitchen stay calm and tidy.
Clever planning means you don’t sacrifice style for practicality. You just get a hard-working family kitchen that truly suits your life.

Smart storage, pantries and larders
A beautiful kitchen should also be effortless to live with. That starts with really good storage.
We create bespoke storage solutions tailored to how you cook and live.
Pull-out chopping boards, slim spice racks, deep drawers for pans and mixers.
Everything has a home, so worktops stay clear.
One of the biggest long-term trends is the pantry or larder cupboard. It keeps dry goods, baking supplies and small appliances in one organised place.
Open the doors and everything is visible at a glance.
A larder can be a statement piece too. Bespoke doors, beautiful internal shelving and lighting turn it into functional art.
Pantries and larders also free up wall space. You can keep runs of units low, add windows, or hang artwork instead of cupboards.
The result is a kitchen that feels lighter, calmer and more spacious, whether it’s a compact room or a large open-plan space.

Built-in seating, dining and islands
Kitchens aren’t just for cooking. They’re for chatting, working, homework and long weekend breakfasts.
Built-in seating and dining areas make every inch count. Banquettes, corner benches and window seats tuck neatly into awkward spaces. They’re great in small kitchen design, where every centimetre matters.
For one project, we designed a curved kitchen bench with storage beneath the seats.
On the opposite wall we built bookshelves with varied depths. The curve created extra space, and we used every bit of it.
Islands remain a firm favourite
They offer preparation space, casual seating and extra storage all in one.
In larger rooms, a double island can feel wonderfully luxurious. One island can focus on cooking, the other on entertaining or homework.
Whatever the layout, a bespoke design ensures your kitchen flows beautifully. You get a social, welcoming space that suits how you actually live.

Confident colour: greens, dark tones and colour pops
Colour is one of the easiest ways to express personality. And it’s far more flexible than people think.
Rich greens, deep blues and even black now act as modern neutrals. They give cabinetry real presence and a sense of luxury.
Pair dark base units with limed oak or pale stone for balance. Add warm metals and textured woods to stop the room feeling flat.
You can also create a focal point with a colour pop.
Think a standout range cooker, statement splashback or bold island colour.
Even bar stools, lighting and small appliances can add playful accents.
Two-tone schemes remain popular.
For example, darker base cabinets with lighter wall units or a contrasting island.
The key is a considered palette you’ll enjoy for years. We’ll help you find colours that feel both current and timeless.

Sleek cabinetry and statement details
Details make all the difference in a bespoke kitchen. They’re often what you notice first when you walk in.
For a clean, contemporary look, many clients choose handleless cabinets. Push-open doors and recessed handles keep lines simple and elegant.
If you prefer a classic feel, slim framed doors with refined handles work beautifully.
Either way, the joinery should feel calm, coherent and well crafted.
At the sink, statement bowls and taps are here to stay. Metallic finishes, textured bowls and sculptural taps all add personality.
Smart taps with instant boiling or filtered water add convenience too. They’re practical upgrades that quietly feel very special.
These thoughtful touches lift a kitchen from simply attractive to truly bespoke. They show in the way you use the space every day.

Multi-functional kitchen living and home offices
Our homes have asked more of us in recent years. Kitchens have become spaces for work, study and hobbies as well as cooking.
A bespoke design lets you blend kitchen and living space gracefully. You might hide a small home office behind pocket doors. You might extend worktops into a dedicated laptop zone.
We often design kitchen home offices that disappear when not in use. Doors close, chairs tuck away, and the room instantly looks calm again.
Open-plan living benefits from this approach too. Defined zones for cooking, dining, relaxing and working keep everything feeling ordered.
Whether your kitchen is modest or expansive, thoughtful planning turns it into a true multipurpose space that still feels beautiful.
