Nothing stops us ... even when nothing is straight, level or vertical!

The traditional ledge and brace doors of the Ropley Pudge kitchen and this character property were an ideal match. We had a fantastic opportunity to design a kitchen which would mould itself around the various low beams and organic angles which houses like this often possess. The aim was to create a kitchen that fitted its environment and that is exactly what we did. Each piece of the kitchen was carefully designed and crafted in our Liss workshop by hand, using traditional techniques and made to fit every wall and beam like a glove! Mod-cons, pan trays, integrated dishwasher, larder, plenty of worktops space and clever storage are also present.

Units are crafted as bespoke pieces of furniture rather than "off-the-shelf" units with industry-dictated dimensions. We used traditional ledge and brace wood doors, solid drawn butt hinges and dovetailed drawers constructed from solid wood, all finished with cushion-close mechanisms. Traditional style with modern comforts – the best of both worlds!

"I cannot recommend Dowers more highly – high quality, very professional, very friendly and reliable service. They did an excellent job in designing and fitting a farmhouse style of kitchen that is appropriate for a 400-year-old timber-frame house using traditional joinery with high-quality units making the best use of the space"

Features of this kitchen

Considering access in older properties

The angled door and worktop meant getting to the table in a tight space was so much easier.

Using natural light for a better workspace

The two glass-fronted units and the open shelf unit above the sink allow light into the room which is important considering the low availability of natural light. The open shelf unit above the sink is situated slightly higher and closer to the wall to give easier access to this important working area.
kitchen larder

A practical larder

The larder offers the cook easily accessible storage and features spice racks, adjustable shelves and pan drawers.

Building around the shape of the home

This kitchen had very few square edges and lines to work with. We used a range of techniques to ensure a quality fit and finish regardless of the wall or angle.

The shelf gives light

This useful shelf provides a solution to lighting up the workspace and sink below – LED lights cut into the shelf.

Traditional style doesn’t have to mean compromise

It's important that everything in the kitchen looks visually harmonious, but you can still have modern storage solutions. These modern drawers hold a great deal lot of crockery but retain the farmhouse look and feel from the outside – even down to the decorative hinges!
